Normally, female villains are held to much higher moral standards than their male counterparts. A villainous dude can get away with a lot and still be regarded as entertaining, but ladies tend to have a much lower “we hate you, please die” threshold among the fandom.

And then there’s these assholes:

It’s just universally agreed that they’re horrible, disgusting, thoroughly toxic people… and we love them for it. I don’t think I’ve ever seen a deliberately unsympathetic female villain - let alone two of them - pull off that kind of fan reaction before.

For those who are messaging me to say “hey, Peridot isn’t that bad, she’s just doing her job”, I want you to bear in mind that:

a. “Her job” involves the annihilation of all life on Earth, and

b. Her immediate reaction to being presented with an unarmed child making a friendly overture is ATTEMPTED MURDER.
